ABOUT US

The Oaks Fishing Academy was established as a Community Interest Company in February 2022 with the aim of promoting the benefits of angling as an inclusive and healthy recreational and sporting activity contributing to the physical health and emotional well-being of people living in the North West of Ireland.

We provide training in angling health and safety, angling equipment, techniques and skills, river and boat craft, angling species and their environments and entomology.

We educate children, young people and the general public about the health, social and economic benefits of angling and its role in environmental conservation.

We promote awareness of the environment by educating children and young people about plants and water-based fauna and fish species, their seasonal variations and lifecycles and the effects of pollutants and non-biodegradable substances and their implications for the wider environment.

We promote angling through partnerships with schools and we can offer angling and associated knowledges as learning tools in schools. We promote, encourage and support angling among under-represented or disadvantaged groups.

We work in partnership with health and social care organisations to offer angling in social prescribing and in other mental and/or physical health interventions.
